Typing Metrics ("we", "us", or "our") operates typingmetrics.com. This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information when you use our Service.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
Typing practice summaries and detailed keystroke event data are stored locally by default. If you grant optional analytics consent, session summaries and pseudonymous usage events may also be sent to our servers.
- Session summaries: Lesson, duration, WPM, accuracy, errors, typed characters, corrections, and language
- Funnel events: Test start, first input, result-save outcome, best-effort exit, and practice-resume events, associated with pseudonymous browser and test IDs
1.2 Automatically Collected Information
When you grant analytics consent, the site sends page-view and interaction events to our analytics endpoint. Those requests can include:
- Request information: IP address, browser user-agent, referrer, and requested page, as received by our server
- Usage information: Pseudonymous browser ID, page views, interactions, language, and selected practice context
- Funnel information: Pseudonymous browser and test IDs, lesson/language, event time, duration, typed-character count, time limit, app version, and event source; funnel records do not include IP address or user-agent fields
1.3 Cookies and Local Storage
Browser local storage holds your analytics choice, a pseudonymous browser ID, preferences, and local practice summaries. Practice summaries are retained on your device and are not sent to our servers when analytics consent is absent. Clearing this site's local storage removes those local records and preferences.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information for the following purposes:
- Service Provision: To provide and maintain our typing trainer functionality
- Optional analytics: To understand site usage and test completion so we can improve the service; these analytics are sent only after you grant consent
- Technical Improvements: To identify and fix technical issues
- Performance Monitoring: To optimize loading times and user experience
3. Data Storage and Security
3.1 Local Storage
Practice summaries and preferences can be stored locally in your browser using localStorage. This data:
- Remains on your device
- Is accessible only by our website
- Can be cleared by you at any time through your browser settings
- Includes a local practice-progress summary and is not synchronized across devices
3.2 Server-Side Analytics
Optional server analytics are sent only when the browser's consent preference is granted. They may include:
- Page views and interaction events, including request IP address, user-agent, referrer, page, and pseudonymous browser ID
- Typing-session summaries, including WPM, accuracy, duration, lesson, error/correction metrics, and request IP address and user-agent as received by our server
- Minimal test-funnel events associated with pseudonymous browser and test IDs; these funnel records omit IP address and user-agent
3.3 Security Measures
We implement appropriate security measures to protect your information:
- HTTPS encryption for all data transmission
- Secure server configuration
- Regular security updates and monitoring
- Consent-aware collection and data minimization for the funnel event stream
4. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Hosting Provider: Our website is hosted on secure servers
Our hosting provider processes requests to deliver the site. The application does not use a third-party analytics provider.
5. Your Data Rights
You have the following rights regarding your data:
- Access: You can view all locally stored data through your browser's developer tools
- Deletion: You can clear all locally stored data through your browser settings
- Export: You can download your typing session logs using the export feature
- Analytics choice: You can reject optional analytics when the consent prompt appears. To withdraw a previous choice, contact us; previously collected server records are not automatically deleted by changing the browser preference.
6. Children's Privacy
Our service is intended for general audiences and does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us to have it removed.
7. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and maintained on servers located outside of your country. By using our service, you consent to this transfer. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your information.
8. Data Retention
We retain data for the following periods:
- Local Storage Data: Remains until you clear it or for browser default retention
- Server analytics: The project does not currently publish a fixed automatic deletion schedule; records are retained for operational analytics and should be removed when no longer needed
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
